Tasting Notes:

Gentle whiffs of violet underpin plum, blueberry and a brush of fynbos. The palate is initially plush and pillow with plump berry notes. The intensity ramps up and an earthy and herbal element becomes apparent. Succulent and refreshing with good acidity, it remains restrained and understated with firm, dry tannin from sympathetic wood maturation. Lithe and pliable with a long, spicy tail.

This wine was produced from grapes from our Riebeeksrivier farm in the Swartland, which is situated on the slopes of the Riebeek Kasteel Mountains on the Malmesbury side.   Our vineyards were planted on the Southern and Western slopes of these mountains. This particular wine is from the Southern slopes where there is more Clay in the soil mixed with Malmesbury shale. The combination of slope and soil culminates into this deeper and richer style red blend.

This wine was produced from grapes from our Riebeeksrivier farm in the Swartland, which is situated on the slopes of the Riebeek Kasteel Mountains on the Malmesbury side. Our best vineyards for red varietals are found on the Southern and Western slopes of these mountains.

Grapes were handpicked in small lug boxes and transported to the cellar in cool trucks. After hand sorting, all components were handled and fermented separately. Fermentation was done in various vessels, this ensures that the unique characteristics of each block and cultivar are captured and emphasized. The wine was aged in a combination of 4th and 5th fill barrels for 16 to 18 months. The blend and percentages will change with each vintage, seeing that no vintage is ever the same.
